WINTER CAN BE CRUEL TO YOUR BEARD
Growing your beard longer for winter may shield some of the cold from your face but don’t forget that your beard is left open to the elements. So, as the mid-winter weather is getting colder you’ll need to pay particular attention to it.
With outdoor temperatures dropping and the indoor heating being cranked up you’re probably noticing your beard and skin feels dryer than usual.
Harsh weather and low humidity can easily dry out your beard, stripping it of its natural oils and leaving the hair dehydrated, brittle and prone to breakage and split ends. Not to mention the itch and possible beardruff.
Winter is a stress test. Cold air outside, dry heat inside, wind, scarves, and sudden shifts in humidity. Your beard takes it all on the chin. Here’s how to winterise your routine so your face feels good and your beard looks better.
UNDERSTAND YOUR BEARD’S ENEMIES: COLD, WIND, AND DRY HEAT
- Cold air holds less moisture—your beard loses hydration faster.
- Wind lifts the cuticle, causing frizz and rough texture.
- Central heating dries the skin beneath, inviting itch and flake.
The fix isn’t complicated. It’s consistent care.
WINTER BEARD WASH ROUTINE
Dial down the soap. Over-washing is the fastest route to brittle, dull hair and irritated skin. In winter, wash a couple of times per week with a gentle beard wash. On non-wash days, rinse with warm water and let oil do the conditioning.
THE POWER OF BEARD OIL – WINTERS SAVIOUR
Using a good quality beard oil daily is a great solution to your beards winter blues. You’ll soon start to notice a difference. Our beard oils are blended from premium ingredients promoting healthy growth and conditioning not only the hair but also the skin underneath.
OIL FIRST
Right after a shower, apply your beard oil on damp towel-dried hair to quickly replenish moisture.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF BEARD OIL (WINTER EDITION)
In colder climates, you’ll likely need slightly more beard oil than in summer, maybe 1 - 2 extra drops on top of your usual amount. See our rough guide of how much beard oil you should normally use below – adjust these for winter if required.
- Heavy stubble 1 - 2 drops
- Short beard 3 - 4 drops
- Medium beard 5 – 6 drops
- Long full beard 7+ drops
COMB WITH INTENTION
Combing isn’t just about shape in winter, it’s about circulation and even distribution. Use a good quality comb to carry oil from roots to ends. Keep that comb handy to quickly smooth and detangle when scarves or wind rough up your beard.
TRIM STRATEGICALLY
Split ends may happen faster in winter. A light trim every few weeks keeps the outline sharp and prevents fuzz. Focus on the outer perimeter and moustache line. Keep the bulk, it’s your insulation.
Winter doesn’t have to be a season of brittle whiskers and itchy skin. With a few shifts and the right products, your beard stays soft, shaped, and ready for whatever the weather throws at it.
